Sant Vicent de Sa Cala (Sant Joan)According to the writings of the historian Joan Mari Cardona, what we now know as Cala San Vicente, in 1478 it was known as the Cala d\'en Maians. because the owner of the vast wealth of the area was Pascual Maians. However, due to economic problems was forced to auction those lands not populated in 1683. Practically the area continued deserted until the eighteenth century, which marks the beginning of a demographic expansion in Ibiza until then unknown. Very few of the families have been proved documentaly that lived in that area. Specifically, Can Toni de sa Font and Can Pere Catalá are the oldest houses in Sa Cala, with the group of Cas Jai. It is documented that only one family, los Rieró, populated the area at the end of the seventeenth century. Sant Vicent in 1840 had 580 inhabitants and it was the church with less parishers of the island. Already in the twentieth century Sant Vicent became known as the mooring point of the telegraph cable that linked Ibiza and Mallorca and its charming small fisher village favored by the wide cove with direct access to the sea. In the 60s it became a city turned to tourism, which still retains for its great attraction and on the winter is a quiet pond. It is worth visiting the church, small and cozy, which was started in 1827 and was inaugurated on August 15, 1838. The main reason that it took 11 years to be completed was that the area had few inhabitants and very poor, so they could not bear the entire cost of the work. The church is rectangular and characterized by being bare of ornaments. Contains the altar, six secondary chapels placed within a sort of shrine for St. Vincent Ferrer, which comes out in procession on certain days. The church is topped with a single bell and has the peculiarity that the porch is not in front of the temple, as in other churches, but to the left, in the western part of the central area. Sa Cala is now an ideal place for family holidays. From its small port are excursions to the island of Tagomago. Remember to visit the Culleram\'s cave and the August 8th they celebrate the traditional festival in Pou des Baladre.
